Boston Honored for Commitment to Improving the NY Judicial System by The Fund for Modern Courts

October 13, 2022

Arnold & Porter partner Sheila S. Boston was recently honored with the John J. McCloy Memorial Award for her commitment to improving the New York State justice system at The Fund for Modern Courts annual award ceremony. The Fund for Modern Courts is a non-partisan, statewide organization committed to ensuring that the New York State Judiciary is independent and that the state’s courts are just and equitable for all.

Boston received the recognition for her leadership of the New York City Bar Association “during the challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting initiatives that included: COVID-19 Recovery Projects, Mental Health and Wellness, Access to Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Criminal Justice Reform, and Protection of the Rule of Law; championing the historically disadvantaged and those in need; and advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and the courts, while working to ensure that all participants in New York’s court system continue to have equal access to the justice; and serving on New York’s First Department Judicial Screening Committee.”

This is just the most recent accolade for Boston, who was named “Outstanding Minority Partner” by the National Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Division. Earlier this year she was named a ‘Diversity & Social Justice Champion’ by Legal Outreach and she also received the Harold Baer Jr. Award from the Network for Bar Leaders.

Boston, a partner in the firm's Product Liability practice who defends clients from initiation of the case through trial and/or settlement, is valued by her clients for her advocacy skills, dependability, and collaborative spirit. In May 2020, Boston became the first woman of color installed as president of the 150-year-old New York City Bar Association.
