WEBCAST: California's Green Chemistry: The Regulations are Coming!

California is developing "Green Chemistry" regulations that could affect all businesses-including non-California companies-that make consumer products sold in the state as well as companies that manufacture chemicals used in those consumer products. In September 2008, Governor Schwarzenegger signed a pair of bills that are moving California to the forefront of a global trend in chemical regulation. In a few weeks, the state will roll out comprehensive regulations that could lead to the redesign of current products, as well as the reduction, elimination, or other regulatory controls of a variety of chemicals in consumer products. The formal rulemaking process is rapidly approaching, and will move quickly.

California's Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has unveiled a conceptual flow chart showing the agency's current thinking on how its forthcoming regulations will work.

This interactive seminar will walk through DTSC's complicated proposed framework, and will also give useful perspectives on how California's Green Chemistry compares to other laws such as the 32-year old federal Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Panelists will also discuss why, although portrayed as an environmental law aimed at chemicals, California's Green Chemistry is really a consumer protection statute aimed at products. We will also share ideas on how to engage in the regulatory process, which ends on December 31, 2010.
