Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP's Telecommunications, Internet, and Media team stands at the forefront of developments in these dynamic industries. Especially where law, technology, and the marketplace are unsettled, we provide strategic counsel and find innovative ways to help our clients achieve their goals. We have guided companies through some of the largest mergers in history, represented cable television operators in franchise disputes with municipalities, advised wireless carriers (terrestrial and satellite) in novel spectrum transactions, counseled clients on how to obtain favorable regulatory treatment for their cutting edge technologies, and advised media clients on First Amendment and related issues.

Operating in offices in Washington, DC, London, and Brussels, our team includes attorneys who have held senior positions dealing with communications policy at such US government agencies as the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the US Department of Justice (DOJ), the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the National Security Agency (NSA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Our team also includes attorneys who have held senior positions in such companies as Iridium, AT&T Canada, and PBS.

The firms Communications practice originated with Paul Porter, a former FCC Chairman. Through the years, we have advised clients across the communications and information sectors, including wireline and wireless carriers; local exchange and interexchange companies; established providers and new entrepreneurs; cable television operators; commercial and public broadcasters; satellite and earth station operators; Internet service and content providers; equipment manufacturers, importers, and marketers; users of telecommunications and information services; trade associations; national governments; supranational institutions; and many others.

In addition to regulatory advice, we assist clients in transactional, antitrust, trial and appellate litigation, national security, intellectual property, international trade, securities, bankruptcy, privacy, product liability, real estate, tax, environmental, government contracts, and legislative matters, both in the US and internationally. In the US, we appear regularly before the FCC, the DOJ, other federal and state agencies, the courts, and Congress. We also represent clients before national regulatory authorities around the globe, including the EU Commission, the European Parliament, and other international bodies such as the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission, the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority (ECTEL) and the European Technical Standards Institute (ETSI). We bring to our clients the benefits of not only the experience of our telecommunications team, but also the fully integrated and coordinated resources of our firm, which includes over 700 attorneys in the US and Europe.
