Alison King Speaks at 2014 Equal Justice Conference

Kaye Scholer Pro Bono Counsel Alison King spoke on two panels at the ABA/National Legal Aid Defenders Associations’ annual pro bono conference, the Equal Justice Conference, held this year in Portland, Oregon. 

On May 1, Alison participated in a session on “Coordinating Financial and Legal Help for Small Businesses: Why It Matters and How to Do It,” which discussed the logistics of developing pro bono business projects, working with students, and how incorporating other financial services professionals to holistically address issues can increase the impact of such projects. Her fellow panelists were Jennifer DaSilva of Start Small Think Big, Darryl Maxwell of the DC Bar Pro Bono Program, and Diana Singelton of the Access to Justice Institute.

On May 2, Alison spoke on a panel concerning “Collaborative Pro Bono Partnering a Corporation, Its Outside Counsel, Legal Services Organizations and the Judiciary.” Alison and her co-panelist, Brenna DeVaney of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, explained the importance of utilizing the collective power/resources of corporations and their outside counsel in collaboration with the courts, legal services and nonprofit organizations to further access to justice, and discussed how a multi-year joint project involving the firms in Pfizer Legal Alliance resulted in multiple successful pro bono projects.
