Xethalis Participates in Decrypting Virtual Currency Regulation Panel
48 Wall St., 15th Floor, New York, NY
Corporate counsel Gregory Xethalis spoke at Dev Bootcamp’s panel “Decrypting Virtual Currency Regulation.” The panel explored the shifting perceptions of Bitcoin, from the use of virtual currency to purchase illicit goods and services on the dark web, to having its own physical exchange down the street from the NYSE, to various regulatory regimes impacting cryptocurrencies, including New York's BitLicense.
Bitcoin, a dynamic virtual currency, started off as an untraceable currency used by criminals before turning into a smart investment for venture capitalists who have been heavily investing in cryptocurrency companies. Due to the popularity and acceptance of cryptocurrencies, governing bodies have questioned if such currencies need to be regulated as something that already exists or something entirely different.
