The Importance and Potential Pitfalls of Hazard Communication For Consumer Products in the Contemporary Marketplace

May 16, 2014
The Pesticides, Chemical Regulation, and Right-to-Know Committee of the American Bar Association Section on Environment and Energy Resources and Arnold & Porter invite you to attend a Brown Bag Program on May 16, 2014.  The program will explore the importance of understanding and conforming with hazard classification and communication requirements for consumer products that contain chemicals.  The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) requirements, recent changes in Consumer Product Safety Commission standards under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA), and retailer and consumer expectations for greater transparency in product composition have converged to bring to light the difficulties product manufacturers, processors and distributors face when supplying information throughout the value chain in the modern marketplace.

Join us for an exciting panel discussion in which you can learn more about this important issue including the perspectives of:  scientists who deal with conflicting standards; regulators who craft and enforce such standards; commercial interests that must comply with the standards; and  attorneys who counsel the makers of products which are subject to the standards.

Panel Members Include:
• Sarah Esmaili, Counsel, Arnold & Porter
• Tim Serie, Counsel, American Coatings Association
• Gavin Thompson, Principal, Environ
• Mary Toro, Director, Regulatory Enforcement, Consumer Product Safety Commission (invited)
The panel discussion will be moderated by Larry Culleen, Partner, Arnold & Porter
