April 19, 2007

William A. Tanenbaum, Partner and International Chair of the Technology, Intellectual Property and Outsourcing Group, hosted "What American Lawyers Need to Know about the EU Privacy Laws (Part I) -- A Joint Presentation with Spanish Counsel," a webinar originally webcast on April 19, 2007. The program included special co-presenter Rafael Echegoyen, a Partner in the Madrid office of Garrigues, the largest law firm in continental Europe. It focused on the basic elements of EU privacy law and how it differs from the U.S. legal regime; Spain's domestic implementation of the privacy law that makes it the "highest common denominator" country when U.S. companies plan global privacy practices; the fines and penalties that can be incurred under Spanish law; and strategies for establishing a world-wide privacy compliance program and enabling cross-border data flow between Europe, the U.S. and common offshore outsourcing sources. The webinar is part of the monthly CLE Tanenbaum on Technology Law and More series sponsored by West and Celesq®.
